2021 Creative Capital Awardee

A few weeks ago I got a call from Creative Capital, an opportunity I’ve applied for several times in the past.  This year, instead of a rejection note, I received a phone call with exciting news. I could hardly believe it. 

I will be part of the cohort for 2021, joining 41 artists in the creation of exciting new work in theater, visual art, film, music and other fields. 

This is a huge milestone for me, and such an encouraging gesture of support for my artistic vision.  

I’m excited to leverage the award to develop a brand new Afro-surreal performance suite -- NightQueen.  It's a great enhancement to what's already underway with the support of Prop Thtr, the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago and Chicago Dramatists! 

Excited to be part of a cohort with William Caballero, Tomeka Reid, Amaryllis DeJesus Moleski and Terence Nance, among others.

Grateful today! Lot's to do to make the most of this opportunity! Looking forward with some optimism.
